For months we have been asking the Lord, “What’s next?”
Matt was set to graduate from Dallas Baptist University with his Master’s degree in theological studies (and he did on May 13, with all A’s!), and it was clear he wanted to study more. So, we began researching seminaries last year. It seemed as though we were putting tremendous effort into praying and visiting schools, but we weren’t getting a clear answer.
This semester we finally narrowed it down to two: Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Southwestern made sense in almost every way. It’s close by, we could both keep our jobs, housing is cheap…the list could go on as to why it would be an easy choice.
But easy is not always right.
A couple of weeks ago, we used some credit card points to send Matt to Louisville once more. The flight there is a sacrifice in itself, but the timing of us receiving just enough points to cover the flight was impeccable.
On that trip, the Lord gave my husband assurance that Louisville is place we need to call home, that it is the place where Matt needs to study to launch him into his calling to ministry.
While Southern does have online programs, we both feel it will be better to live where he studies and to build our community around that.
On June 11, we will make the 850-mile trek Northeast to the home of the Kentucky Derby, the world’s largest baseball bat and, of course, Kentucky Fried Chicken.
We have been approved for a townhome located just three miles from campus. They are pet friendly and even have a dog park and tennis court!
Matt will continue his career as a full-time solutions developer for the Seed Company, working remotely from our home office. I will continue contract writing for the Seed Company and will explore other employment options along the way.
We are looking forward to the sound teaching the seminary has to offer and also the relationships we will build with young couples going through a similar walk in life and older couples who have been where we are.
We are both thrilled and anxious but trust the Lord’s provision. We covet any prayers and words of encouragement you would like to send our way as we head to Louisville!
