As I sit at our kitchen table (a card table we prettied up with place mats and flowers) with my husband working diligently at his home office desk in the room next door, I cannot help but praise the Lord for where we are.
“We we are” is in our new townhouse in Louisville, Kentucky, where Matt will study at seminary for the next 2 to 3 years.
I have yet to find a job, we still haven’t built any genuine relationships, but that’s OK. I have a peace about this place. There’s no doubt in my mind this is where the Lord has called us to be.
Two nights ago, we hopped on our bicycles to explore the neighborhood surrounding us. We passed by at least a hundred (literally) people who were walking their dogs, running, riding bicycles, pushing their children in strollers and just taking in the fresh nighttime air. Nearly every person we passed greeted us with a smile and a “hello.”
Simple kindness goes a long way.
It is essential that, at this time in our lives (and all times for that matter), we remain rooted in the Word and put our trust in God. It will be easy to feel lonely. It will be easy to feel discouraged when job postings just don’t match my skill set.
But this is where the Lord has called us to be, and so long as that holds true, I pray that we will continue to have this peace in our hearts. It will probably mean more bike rides around the neighborhood, starting more conversations with strangers, praying harder than ever before and always remembering this verse:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight. Prov. 3:5-6
And I cannot forget to praise the Lord each and every day. Here are just a few BIG things I praise Him for just in these first few days:
- For reliable vehicles taking us on the 15-hour, 846-mile trek from Lancaster, Texas to Louisville, Kentucky last Saturday.
- For my parents, who traveled with us and served as extra drivers, company and hands.
- For small world connections giving us a few more hands to help unload.
- For this townhouse to decorate and make a home.
- For my husband, who followed God’s call to the beautiful SBTS campus, even thought it wasn’t an easy choice.
- For divine providence for the road ahead.
