Matt and I decided to take a long weekend and hopped on ih-35 south. After a day of tubing down the Comal River in San Marcos, we headed to our destination of San Antonio for a nice dinner in downtown.
Our seemingly perfect weekend literally came to a halt, though, when we experienced a minor car accident. If you’ve ever experienced a wreck, you probably know even a “minor” accident can mean “major” hassle.
So, we spent that evening patching up a broken window and the next morning calling insurance, Service King and Enterprise. As you can imagine, I was just about ready to pack up and call it a failed attempt at having a nice weekend getaway.
But we opted to stay because Matt wanted to visit the Natural Bridge Caverns. Much to our surprise, next to the caverns is the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. Since we are both animal-lovers (Matt will probably hesitate to admit it), of course we drove on in.
And just like that, all of my bothersome worries and annoyances about the car disappeared.
Yes, God gave us some animals to take care of the earth, some to feed us humans and some (especially in the early days) to help us get to and from places, but can we all just agree God gave us animals to sometimes just make us smile?!
Even in their anger, animals can be quite amusing. (FYI- the smaller bird is a Rhea, not a baby ostrich- a fact I learned from the Wildlife Ranch nature book.)
Sometimes, I’m convinced they smile back at us.
Regardless of if they intend to or not, I’m grateful for God’s gift of animals to sometimes just brighten my day.
Whether I’m aww-ing at the cute way they sleep,
or giggling at their underbite,
The beautiful, creepy, mean, squirmy, fluffy and sometimes majestic creatures of this world to me are evidence of God’s intelligent design. Though they don’t ALL put a smile on my face, I’m grateful for those at the Wildlife Ranch that gave me a good laugh after a hard day.
Our weekend concluded with a wonderful boat ride and dinner at the River Walk, then some relaxation time before we headed home. God bless vacation days and a best friend to spend that time with!
